Summer Professional Development for Local Teachers

News Release • February 5, 2019

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation in conjunction with LIGO Livingston, San Francisco's Exploratorium, the Unviersity of Glasgow and SSERC (Scottish Schools Education Research Centre) announce two upcoming 3-week, out of state, teacher workshop opportunities.  These opportunites are supported by the National Science Foundation. 
 
PHYSICS TEACHERS:  Want to go to Scotland and see how they teach Physics?  Scotland has a vibrant community of Physics teachers, and physics students.  Scotland is one of the few areas where physics teachers inevitably majored in physics while in college.  Immerse yourself in Scotland's culture, take part in Scotland’s professional development, visit physics classes and bring back an understanding of what changes we can make here at home.  We will send two lucky physics teachers to Scotland for 3 weeks between May 26th and June 26th 2019.  Find out more and apply at here. MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOLl Teachers:  Want to visit San Francisco in order to build physical science devices for your classroom?  Join the Exploratorium as you explore the science teaching craft through the Exploratorium’s Summer Institute.  This 3 week institute happens June 17th - July 5th and LIGO is looking to send two lucky teachers to Exploratorium to attend the institute.  Find more information and apply here.  APPLICATIONS DUE MARCH 3RD.
