Virtual Field Trips

LIGO is offering virtual field trips!

Teachers of 4th grade and above have the option to book a virtual tour of the LIGO Livingston Observatory, choose from two inquiry-based activities lasting 15-20 minutes each, or opt for a single subject-focused session such as Engineering Design or Refraction & Light using pennies.

All virtual activities are designed to utilize common household materials like pennies, clear plastic cups, coffee mugs, and popsicle sticks.

Each virtual field trip is designed to last between 40 minutes to an hour. LIGO staff will conduct the sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams with your in-class or remote students.

If you're interested in booking a session, please sign up below.

Note: Repeat visits are encouraged, as preliminary studies suggest these may have a greater positive impact on your students. These sessions are primarily facilitated by the LSU/LIGO Physics and Astronomy Demos program but can be booked through this form.
