aLIGO Documentary Project, Episode 2: The New Age of Gravitational Wave Astronomy

This video is the second video in Les Guthman's Advanced LIGO Documentary Project's eight-part series on LIGO's historic discovery of gravitational waves, and the birth of the new age of gravitational wave astronomy. As Kip Thorne, one of the creators of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, wrote more than three decades ago: “When the shape of space is oscillating wildly and the rate of flow of time is oscillating wildly, for me this is a fascinating frontier of knowledge.” We are now on that frontier.  In addition, the end of the video includes a snapshot of LSC members Sarah Gossan and Max Isi.

Featured are Kip Thorne, Saul Teukolsky, Peter Saulson, Salvo Vitale, Laura Cadonati, Sheldon Glashow, Alessandra Buonanno and Mike Landry, Sarah Gossan and Max Isi.  Animations in the movie come from SxS and the Max Planck Inst. for Gravitational Physics, including those from Tim Dietrich at Max Planck.

This was filmed with funding from the National Science Foundation, MATHWORKS, Caltech & MIT.
