Science Saturdays
Visit the LIGO Science Education Center on the first Saturday of every month, from 10 AM to 4 PM, for Science Saturdays —FREE, drop-in public events featuring 40+ interactive exhibits and guided tours.
Guided Tours

Tours run every 30–60 minutes

Tours include the control room and, weather permitting, a view to one of the 4 km-long interferometer arms stretching into the pine forest

Please arrive by 2:30 PM if you’d like to join a tour

Tour schedules may vary during the summer

Individuals and small groups are welcome

Note: We do not take advance tour reservations for groups smaller than 20 people. Groups of 20 or more, please send an email the week prior to outreach@ligo-la.caltech.edu

What to Expect During Your Visit

Plan to spend about 1.5 hours at LIGO

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes

No food is available on-site; the nearest dining options are 10–15 minutes away and limited

Photography is welcome (please do not record or video staff without their permission)

Science Saturdays are suitable for all ages

LIGO facilities are wheelchair accessible, though the site tour includes a gentle slope

No advance registration required—Science Saturdays are the only day each month LIGO is open to the public
Each Science Saturday features a special theme, reflected in the lobby exhibits and activities, highlighting the science and engineering behind gravitational-wave detection.
Questions are especially welcome during tours.
