LIGO's mirrors can swing as pendulums

Science Saturday @LIGO Livingston, Aug. 17

News Release • August 12, 2019

On Aug. 17th LIGO Science Education Center in Livingston, LA, will be hosting its monthly Science Saturday when we are open to the public from 1 PM - 5 PM.

Tours are conducted roughly every 30 minutes from 1 PM - 4 PM.  LIGO's Science Saturdays are free and open to the public  - you can drop in any time from 1-5 PM.  We request that groups of 15 or more let us know that you intend to come by filling out a tour request form.  This Saturday we ask you to swing into science by playing with things that swing!  Understand how LIGO uses pendulums to isolate motion, explore coupled pendulums, try to create a pendulum platform you can balance a ball on.

Special presentation by Kathy Beauford on "Apollo Moon Exploration" at 2:30 PM.
