    LIGO-Virgo Finds Mystery Object in "Mass Gap"

    News Release • June 23, 2020

    LIGO and Virgo report the observation of a merger involving a black hole of 23 solar masses and a compact object of 2.6 solar masses, detected during LIGO’s and Virgo’s 3rd observing run on August 14, 2019. The merger resulted in a final black hole of about 25 solar masses, located about 800 million light-years from Earth.
