Public Events

LIGO Hanford periodically hosts star parties, open houses, and other special events for the public. Notices of these activities will appear on this page. If you would like to take a look at our facility between public events, consider attending a LIGO tour on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Check the LIGO Hanford Tours page for upcoming tour dates and times.

Note:  LIGO Hanford's location isn't recognized by most mapping and direction-finding services.  Please check our web-viewable driving directions to help you find our facility.

On August 21st, 2017, a magnificent total eclipse of the sun will be visible across the United States, passing first over central Oregon, about a 3-hour drive south of LIGO Hanford Observatory! Given the numbers of people from around the globe expected to converge in the Pacific Northwest for this once-in-a-lifetime event, LIGO Hanford Observatory is planning to host a POST-ECLIPSE EVENT on the evening of August 21st. The eclipse will be over before noon in the Pacific Time Zone giving people plenty of time to make the drive to LIGO to visit our world-class facility. Bookmark this page and check back in the weeks and months to come as details of this event are finalized!

If you can't make the eclipse event but would still like a tour, please contact our Education and Outreach Coordinator for other possible options.
