Tours start at LIGO's Science Education Center

Public Tours

Public tours are not currently being scheduled for 2020-21 due to COVID -19. Please pay attention to our website for updates.

Luckily, as a member of the general public, we have a community outreach experience designed just for you - our Science Saturdays!  With our Science Saturdays you don't even need to book a tour.  However, if you have a group of more than 15 people, then we will want you to fill out a tour form for your group.  If you have a group size of less than 15 and you absolutely can not make it on a Science Saturday, then you'll need to fill out a form as well.  Please note that we have limited availability of people to provide you with tours, so we can't guarantee you that we can honor your request - but we'll try.

Time:  Tours typically take 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Cost:  There is no cost (yes the tours are free)

Lunches:  We have no facilities to buy lunches on-site, but if you are coming around lunch time, you are welcome to bring your lunch and eat it outside at our pavilion.

  • Vehicles MUST REMAIN ON SITE DURING THE TOUR.  LIGO Livingston is in a remote location & we are sensitive to vibrations, therefore for the safety of the visitors and in order to keep LIGO's instrument working well, visitors are not allowed to be dropped off for a tour.
