Penultimate in-air transfer functions of the ITMY quad in BSC8 revealed that the
L2 upper left OSEM was not seeing current; we swapped the DAC board and the problem
was resolved. Final in-air transfer functions were then made, indicating actuation health
at L2, and readiness to close the door on the chamber. Final SUS activities ensued,
including setting top stage BOSEMs for bouyancy effects, placement of witness plates,
and sweeps for tools and contaminants. We then closed BSC8 and pumped this chamber, plus the
y-manifold. This is the second volume the vac team has pumped down this week: the H1
input HAM1-3 volume is coming down after pumping for leak checks.
At BSC6 in EY, the SUS team is working through their closeout punchlist as
we drive to closing this chamber out as well.
In-vac TMS work nominally completed as the main beam and Hartmann path were deemed
sufficiently aligned. Picomotors for the green injection were swapped with
modified units to prevent the "stop ring"s on the tip of picomotors from interfering with Siskiyou mounts.
Be sure and check out the beauty of TMS/green ALS setup, something IR can't match,
here, and
here.
Furthermore, HEPI work was launched at EY with linearity and range-of-motion measurements.
We embarked on in-chamber cleaning (ICC) work at BSC2 (the H1 beamsplitter chamber).
We pulled iLIGO flooring out of BSC6 EY, replaced it with final (in-vac) aLIGO flooring, and
moved the former to BSC2. The iLIGO passive stack was extracted from BSC2, and the made ICC
inspection, bellows vacuuming, and shrouding of support tubes. We took the
opportunity to go into BSC1 and FTIR sample dusty baffle there.

Post-install transfer functions were taken on the HAM3-ISI and they
look good.
Glass was installed in MC1i suspension and is now hanging freely. The
optic still needs to be balanced. This was the first time we used a
thinner first contact coating to allow initial alignment of the optic
without having to peel back the first contact.
Glass was also installed in the PR3 suspension and the team is now in
the process of aligning and balancing this optic. We may have to
rework some brackets, which will delay Phase 2b testing. However, the
team will be able to continue working on MC1 and MC3.
A measurement was made of the mode that will be injected into the
modecleaner by propagating the beam 7 m in order to get beamscan data
in the far field. The overlap with the IMC was 99.5% for the x-axis
fit and 94.5% for the y-axis.
The Beam Splitter suspension was removed from the passive stack and
placed in its storage container in preparation for the arrival of the
BSC-ISI platform. This did not go smoothly, various problems were
found with the tooling used to remove the suspension from the stack
and insert it into storage. These problems will be rectified before we
move this suspension again.
The first BSC-ISI at Livingston was craned onto a test stand in the
vertex. Everything went smoothly, there were a couple of discoveries
about tooling and fixtures that will be acted on for future moves.

- Visited SRI Hermetics to review the design and test the first article 5 way coax feedthroughs. The feedthroughs were baked to simulate our cleaning process, hipot tested, leak checked, and sectioned with no signs of cracks. We have approved the shipment of the first 8 dual units to Livingston to replace the units that have been installed.
- Visited Arland Tool to inspect additional large plates. They now have 8 plates inspected, boxed, and ready for shipment.
Testing and Commissioning
- SEI Testing: We are checking and refining all the commissioning for the beginning of the single arm test and short Michelson. Everything seems to be in place to get “high blend” and “level 1” performance implemented quickly. We start preparing the sensor correction part.
- R&D: We are using the jig we have designed to create experimentally tilt-horizontal couplings. We reported last week a small mismatch between theory and experiment. It seems that the problem is due to a non linearity in the L4C we are using: the resonant frequency of the instrument changes as a function of the leveling angle. We are quantifying this non linearity on the bench and check if it is specific to this L4C. ~ Fabrice

- We have completed the alignment of HSTS MC3, and started the alignment of HSTS MC1.
- The magnets have been glued on to the Intermediate and Bottom masses for HLTS PR3. The masses have been reinstalled and balanced. PR3 will be ready for final testing as soon as the AOSEMs are aligned.
- Gerardo is continuing entering the build data from the HSTS and HLTS travelers into ICS assembly records.
From Betsy:
BSC8 INSTALL
* Finally closed the chamber, again. We were held up for a couple of days while we sorted out an unresponsive actuation signal in one of the PUM stage AOSEMs. This was remedied via a DAQ board swap.
* Pumping of chamber started this afternoon (Wednesday) so we can launch in-vacuum TFs of systems shortly.
BSC6 INSTALL
* Immediately after closing out BSC8, we redirected back to BSC6, again. This week we reclamped the ETMy, and reapplied the ERM-AR FirstContact which was removed over a week ago while TMS worked on their alignment. (It was not the easiest task to apply FC on this surface while the TMS was hanging ~8 inches away. And, locking the ISI, inhibiting possible other work in the process, and swinging the TMS back did not seem to be any easier.) The clamped suspension also let other crews do some in-chamber work (swap flooring, etc.) A checklist of items still to do in this chamber are at:

LLO
- General: Preparations for install into HAM 2 are ongoing.
From Danny
- Danny came up with a short term solution for applying first contact to centre of HAM optics (small aperture) which avoids overspraying. Parts are being designed and ordered at Caltech for future application.
- All optics for HAM 2 have their primary and secondary prisms installed and are underway of receiving there magnets.
- He has completed the check list required for beam splitter prism placement spread sheet and will proceed with that bonding work once Mark has confirmed we are OK to proceed..
- He is in the process of packing up the LLO ITM PUMS and one TCP to ship to LHO for bonding.
Testing
From Stuart:
- Once the doors on HAM3 had been closed-up and both HSTS suspensions (PR2 + MC2) and ISI unlocked, M1-M1 transfer functions plus power spectra of M1, M2, and M3 have been taken. This resulted in the most impressive and lowest noise measurements to date, showing good agreement with the model and great consistency from suspension to suspension.
- Updating triples testing Matlab scripts to include tables in the header of the files indicating the test phase and test configuration to enable clear traceability of results and the approval status.
- Measuring open-light counts for AOSEMs and tweaking the sensor alignment, with the aim to provide a sufficient quantity of units that meet the open-light goal, which can later be installed into SR2, SRM and SR3.
- Familiarised himself, with the guidance of Anamaria, with the BSFM test-stand and methods of running Matlab based transfer functions, should it be necessary to take measurements while Anamaria is unavailable.
Electronics
From Rolf:
- Last 8 AA chassis for LLO being shipped this week.
- Continued build of remaining I/O chassis for SUS H1 corner station; testing has begun and may start to ship by end of next week. These are primarily the corner station ITM/BS and ETM chassis. All others are already on site.
- HAM A coil drivers for H1 install shipped this week.
From Anna:
- Completed noise testing on Sat. amp. boxes, transfer functions in progress.
Cabling
From Kate (visiting LLO):
- Made preliminary cable buy list.
- Checked grounding of MC3 at LLO.
Prestabilized Laser
Peter King
The alignment and modematching of the output of both the front end laser and the high
power oscillator into the diagnostic breadboard was completed. Scans of the output
of both lasers were completed. The front end laser had 4.5% in higher order modes,
6.5% for the high power oscillator.
Alignment of the high power acousto-optic modulator used for the power stabilisation
was partially completed. The bandwidth of the acousto-optic modulator was measured to
be approximately 3 MHz. The high power pre-modecleaner was aligned and mode matched
at an interim power level, which permitted the optical path to the power stabilisation
photodetector and reference cavity to proceed. Double passing of the beam to the
frequency shifting acousto-optic modulator was completed and currently the reference
cavity is being aligned.
A test with a water bladder in the cooling lines of the laser was conducted. It was
hoped that this would remove, or filter out, some vibrations caused by the turbulent
water flow over the laser rods. The measurements were not conclusive and a further
test may be conducted.

- IMCF05–09’s measurements at RTS have been done. The polarization contamination issue was investigated. It was found that a bias of ~300 ppm might be there in the transmission measurement of IMCF01–04. Taking out this bias, the result is more consistent with the spec.
- Ongoing at RTS is ITM08’s measurement. So far, the transmission and AR reflection have been done, the results are quite similar to that of ETM08, which was coated with ITM coating last year for the single-arm test.
