First, I'd like to see the plan extended to include data propagation from the observatories to CIT: i.e, tapes should be generated on a schedule at the sites, shipped on a schedule to CIT, and ingested on a schedule at CIT. Second, I'd like to see the plan extended to include data propagation to the tier 2 sites, which I presume includes MIT. It is not enough to generate and publish the RDS: they have to successfully propagate to the sites and be properly registered in the local databases. Note that this involves - verifying ldr operations with a constantly changing catalog; - verifying our sustained bandwidth between CIT and the sites. Third, I'd like to suggest we set some specific, quantitative service provision targets: e.g., * max elapsed time from data acquisition to RDS generation; * max elapsed time from RDS generation to propagation to tier 2 site(s). We should carefully consider what our target for these times should be for S3, and for S3 as practice for S4 and beyond. Fourth, we identify and include in the team the individuals responsible at the observatories for data creating and shipping the tapes, at at the tier 1 site and each tier 2 site for data propagation issues (bandwidth, local LDR support, etc). This team should be the same set of individuals who will be responsible for these activities during S3. Fifth, I'd like to recommend that we treat as a dry run. This is different than we have treated other MDCs, which were more functionality tests. In this case our goal is very clearly articulated as a sustained level of service (i.e, the service provision targets above). We should come to a clear understanding amongst ourselves what that level of service is and prove to ourselves that we can meet it. Sixth, we should highlight this activity with the exec committee, the analysis group chairs, and the S3 shift manager (is there an S3 shift manager yet?), who should be aware of all the activities associated with shift operations. Last, we should advertise advertise this activity to the collaboration as a commitment.
