As soon as it is finalized, I will call a meeting; plan to attend, as a reviewer or a project member! - A pair of documents has been prepared (Ugolini, Jou, Weinstein) describing the proposed upgrade to the vacuum control system (intended for review). http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~ajw/vacuum.pdf http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~ajw/tedjou.pdf Please give us your comments! - A document has been prepared (Weinstein, Ugolini, Vass) describing the proposed seismic stack rebuild and vacuum chamber bakeout. It contains many questions / uncertainties! http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~ajw/stacks.pdf or .ps Please give us your comments! - A document has been prepared (Weinstein) describing a configuration for implementing RSE at the 40m, establishing cavity lengths and control frequencies. http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~ajw/rse_lengths.pdf or .ps Please give us your comments! - In November, we photographed and inventoried all the equipment (optics, racks, PSL, etc) in the 40m lab.For photos, see http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~dugolini/index.html and for inventory, see me. (Requests for equipment should go to Gary, and cc me). - On 1/10/00, Vass and Ugolini removed the south end test mass, and Helena Armandula looked at it with a microscope in the optics test lab. Vass: "It was easy to find a ~3mm long, horizontal scratch. It is located slightly above center of the surface. This location is identical with the highly scattering horizontal line that we had observed under resonant conditions." See http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~dugolini/jpegs/SETM.jpg This explains some, but not all, of the problems encountered while trying to operate the power-recycled 40m IFO. - Fred Asiri is working with Caltech Physical Plant to make modifications to the 40m building, hopefully in early spring! - remove doghouse - patch roof of lab and north annex - extend north annex - refurbish north annex to be used as new control room - remove wall between current control room and IFO room - electrical wiring - Fred Asiri will manage the construction of a new seismic stack for the output chamber, to house a signal recycling mirror for RSE. - Mike Smith will prepare a detailed optical layout and baffle design for the 40m RSE configuration. All of the documents mentioned above can be clicked from the 40m upgrade web page, http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~ajw/40m_upgrade.html . Thanks! AJW
