Equipment at the 40m laboratory as of 1/2000 AJW, 1/24/00 _________________________________________________________________ There exists a rather complete inventory of equipment on an excel spreadsheet, see me. There are recent (12/99) photos of the lab at: http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~dugolini/index.html Here are broad categories, with suggested disposition: _______________ Things that we definitely will re-use in the upgrade: - Optical tables, including PSL table - Vacuum beam tube, chambers, stacks - vacuum equipment: pumps, valves, gauges, flanges, o-rings, etc - optical levers: red lasers, mirrors, photodiodes - VME electronics: CPUs, DACs, ADCs, network cards - lab devices: scopes, spectrum analyzers, amplifiers, function generators, power supplies - computers, RAID array (on loan from LDAS), printer, fax, xerox, seismometer, shakers, etc. Definitely want upgraded computer systems and networking! _______________ _______________ Things that we *could* re-use: - Green core (4") optics (RM, BS, SV, SE, EV, EE). We could re-polish-and-coat, saving $48K for new blanks; but optics experts recommend new higher-quality glass, especially for the transmissive optics (RM, BS, SV, EV). Still need a new blank for the signal mirror. - digital and other video cameras (can they be made to work in IR?) - suspensions: - two single-wire EPICS-controlled suspensions (RM, BS) - one single-wire non-EPICS suspensions (SV) - three double-wire suspensions with sharks (SV, SE, EE) We could re-use the two single-wire EPICS-controlled suspensions, espeicially if it is expedient (eg, if we have everything we need for first tests, except for the mechanical suspensions). - mirror mounts, motorized mounts, picomotor-driven telescopes, pzt's. _______________ _______________ Things we most-likely don't need: - Green PSL: Argon laser (actually, two of them), lots of green optics, PZT's, Pockels cells, fixed cavities, mirrors and mirror mounts, etc. Whether this system is worth more as a unit or cannabalized, depends on who wants it! - Green auxiliary optics (steering mirrors, periscopes, mode-matching telescopes, mode cleaner mirrors...) - Green photodiodes and amplifiers, including several WFS PD's; Pockels cell & driver - home built electronics (mostly NIM): xy modules, old lsc and asc servos, NIM crates, shark electronics, coil drivers, mixers, filters, etc.
