LIGO Veteran Gerry Stapfer Honored by the State of Louisiana

- Contributed by the LIGO News Desk

Earlier this year, the Governor of Louisiana named Gerry Stapfer, the recently retired LIGO Livingston Observatory Facilities Manager, an esteemed Ambassador for the State of Louisiana. In a letter accompanying the commendation, the honorable M. J. "Mike" Foster cited Gerry for his hard work and dedication in helping to make LIGO a successful project.

Gerry Stapfer.
Award to Gerry Stapfer.

Skip Smart, Assistant Secretary of Economic Development for the State of Louisiana, along with Andy Koplin, the Governor's Chief of Staff, signed additional letters of concurrence. Skip, an ardent promoter of the Livingston site, was a great help in guiding LIGO through it's early construction activities; while Andy was instrumental in securing state funds for the construction of the LLO access road. Both gentlemen wish Gerry a happy and enjoyable retirement.
